Tessie Prakas’s research focuses on early modern poetry and poetics, and especially on devotional lyric. Her current book project, Poetic Priesthood: Reformed Ministry and Radical Verse in the Seventeenth Century, argues that early modern poetry often served to provide models for religious devotion that were distinct from, and sometimes antithetical to, the established church. Her teaching focuses largely on Shakespeare, 16th- and 17th-century poetry, and on the relationship between music and literature.

Nayana Bose earned her BSc in economics from the University of Calcutta in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, and her MA in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, India. She received her PhD from Vanderbilt University in 2015. Her fields are development economics, labor economics, and applied econometrics.

Maryan Soliman earned her PhD in history from the University of Pennsylvania in 2014, her BA in history from UC Berkeley and her MA in history from San Francisco State University. During the 2015–16 academic year, she held a postdoctoral fellowship with the African and African American Studies Program at Washington University in St. Louis. Maryan’s research interests include the black freedom movement, labor organizing, and radical history.

Forlino graduated magna cum laude from the University of Florence, Italy, in modern foreign languages and literatures and earned his MA and PhD degrees in Italian at Rutgers University. He also speaks, and has taught, German and Arabic, and holds a graduate diploma in American studies from Smith College. He joins 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú from California State University, Fullerton, where he served as multi-area full time lecturer in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.

This fall, 11 new tenure-track faculty members joined 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú, including two at the W.M. Keck Science Department. As part of our ongoing series on 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú’ faculty, the Office of Marketing and Communications recently sat down with Assistant Professor Carlin Wing, the first full-time tenure-track professor of media studies at 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú.
Wing earned her AB in visual and environmental studies and social anthropology at Harvard University, her MFA in photography and media at California Institute of the Arts, and her PhD in media, culture, and communication at New York University. Her areas of interest include media and communication, science and technology, material culture, globalization, performance, disability, and play, games, and sport. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, and has published writing in Games and Culture, Public Books, Cabinet, Art Lies, and The Bulletin of the Serving Library.
