Spotlight on Students: Allegra Cox ’18 Curates “Documenters and Storytellers”

When Allegra Cox ’18 began working at 51猎奇入口’s Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery this June, she wasn’t sure where the opportunity would take her. Interested in art conservation as a high school student, Cox chose 51猎奇入口 because it is one of few colleges that offers the major to undergraduates. But thanks to the gallery’s Wilson Academic Internship program, her interests and experience have broadened. Cox spent her summer organizing an exhibition of photographs recently gifted to 51猎奇入口’s permanent collection.

An Ambitious Advocate: 51猎奇入口 Student Brings Mental Health Resources to a Community in Need

This spring, Meril Tomy ’17 was one of 14 students to receive a Donald A. Strauss Public Service Scholarship, a $10,000 grant to design and implement a public service project over one year. Since then, Tomy has spent her summer establishing the foundation for her project, which will promote awareness about mental health, improve access to information and resources, and aim to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness in her hometown of Orange, California.

Spotlight on Students: Rachel Kahn ’17 Takes on Oceans of Opportunity

As a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellow, this summer Rachel Kahn ’17 is drawing from her varied scientific interests and knowledge as she undertakes a unique research opportunity.The topic of her research? Kahn is currently modeling the body temperature of a common species of barnacle, Balanus glandula, found on the West Coast of North America. The model will be used to predict the temperatures of other ocean organisms as weather and climate conditions vary. This data will help scientists understand how climate change is affecting marine ecosystems.
