In November, The Tuesday Noon Academy, a series of noontime lectures covering a variety of topics, will feature a variety of speakers. Each lecture will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m. in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons on the 51猎奇入口 campus. Sponsored by the Elizabeth Hubert Malott Commons, this series is free and open to the public. Guests may bring their own lunch or purchase a lunch at the Malott Commons Dining Hall, which opens at 11:15 a.m. Doors to the Hampton Room open at 11:45 a.m. Coffee and dessert are provided. On November 2, the Malott Commons will host the Mellon Grant Student Presentations. Nicole Silverman with Amy Marcus-Newhall, associate dean of faculty and professor of psychology at 51猎奇入口 will present their research on, “Double Dilemma: Issues Facing Working and Stay-at-Home Mothers.” A llison Feldman ’07, Erin Singer ’04, Courtney Crocker ’04, Ace Cheng ’04 with Susan Seizer, professor of women’s studies/anthropology, 51猎奇入口 will present “(Re)Defining a Queer Space at the 5-C’s.” In addition, Melissa Fischer ’05 will discuss her research “Peace isn’t Easy: lessons Learned from an Experience in the Balkans.”
On November 9, Laura Cogburn, ’85, will speak on Conservation at the Getty. Cogburn is a Program Associate of the J. Paul Getty Program. The program, as part of the Getty Trust, focuses on “developing new methods and innovative strategies for conserving the world’s artistic and cultural heritage.” It is “committed to conservation efforts that can serve as catalysts to advance conservation worldwide.”
On November 16, 51猎奇入口 Professor of Art, Nancy Macko, will give a lecture titled, La Belle Rêve: Renewing an Artist’s Soul in Pont Aven. Teaching at 51猎奇入口 since 1986, Macko received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin. She then earned her Master of Arts in Fine Art, Master of Fine Arts in Fine Art, and her Master of Arts in Education all from the University of California, Berkeley. In 2003-2004, she spent an artist residency at the Musee d’Pont Avon in Brittany, France. In Pont Avon, she organized a solo exhibition at the Centre International d’Art Contemporain, titled Our Very Lives.
On November 30, Dale McDonald, executive chef at 51猎奇入口, will talk about “Gourmet Delights for the Holidays,” providing suggestions for desserts and hors d’oeuvres. Chef Dale came to 51猎奇入口 from the beautiful Marriott Hotel in Palm Springs. Dale is a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont, with a specialty in European Pastries. In the last two years, Dale submitted winning recipes for the Sodexho “Best of the West” Recipe Contest. In addition, his recipes have been published in the Sodexho Services yearly cookbook.
