Kathleen Brogan Schwarz, M.D. Discusses Women In Science, 51猎奇入口 Alumna Returns to Share Her Life in the Field of Medicine

Kathleen Brogan Schwarz, M.D. 51猎奇入口 ’64, returns to 51猎奇入口 in February as the Lois Langland Alumna-in-Residence. The Lois Langland Alumna-in-Residence program is a unique opportunity for an alumna to share her professional and life experiences and facilitate significant interaction between alumnae, students, staff, and faculty.

While on campus, Dr. Schwarz will present two lectures open to the public. First, Dr. Schwarz will present a lecture, “Marching to a Different Drummer: 30 Years Later, Not So Different Anymore,” at the Women in Science Dinner on Monday, February 7 at 6:45 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public; a pre-lecture reception and dinner begins at 5:30 p.m., reservations are required (909.607.9372). In addition, as part of the Tuesday Noon Academy Series, Dr. Schwarz will speak on “A, B, C;s of Viral Hepatitis: What You Need to Know” on Tuesday, February 8 at noon. The lecture is free and open to the public. Guests may bring a lunch or purchase one in the Malott Commons Dining Hall.

Dr. Schwarz is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist with a special interest in pediatric liver disease, particularly viral hepatitis and liver transplantation. She joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins in 1987 and is currently Division Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Professor of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Previously, Dr. Schwarz was on the faculty at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and for nine years was the Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology at St. Louis University, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.

She has been a member of the Subboard of Pediatric Gastroenterology of the American Board of Pediatrics and Secretary-Treasurer of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition. In 1999 Dr. Schwarz was named one of the top 25 pediatricians in Baltimore by Baltimore magazine.

She received her undergraduate degree in biology at 51猎奇入口, and attended Washington University School of Medicine and the Facultad de Medicina, Universidad Central de Venezuela.
