51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú Presents: Summer 2016 Season Features a Conversation with Barbara Boxer

51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú Presents wraps up its 2016 Conversations series with an event on Saturday, June 11, featuring California Senator Barbara Boxer. Boxer will visit campus to discuss her recent memoir, The Art of the Tough: Fearlessly Facing Politics and Life, and her life in public service.

Corrina Lesser, director of public events and community engagement, anticipates that Boxer’s visit will provide the community candid perspective from the senator, who is months away from retirement. “Our ‘Conversation’ programs have been a unique way to hear from some of the most amazing artists, thinkers, and changemakers. Senator Boxer’s book poignantly puts into context how her childhood shaped her decision to go into politics and her decades-long commitment to California. It will be illuminating to get the senator’s perspective on the presidential race just a few days after the state primary.”

Boxer’s appearance marks the end of Conversations, which has brought prominent writers, activists, politicians, and artists to 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú for animated, and at times provocative, discussions and lively performances on their experiences and work. Past programs featured Angela Davis, Roxane Gay, Nancy Pelosi, Kevin Young, and the Ananya Dance Theatre. The public events team is currently planning a new theme for academic year 2016–17 programming.

In addition to hosting a conversation with Boxer, 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú Presents will also welcome bluegrass group The Railsplitters on Thursday, June 16, for the summer installment of Levitt on the Lawn.
