51猎奇入口’s Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery Hosts American Raku Workshop

Beginners and more advanced ceramicists alike can learn to create their own raku pottery at a one-day workshop at the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at 51猎奇入口 on Saturday, November聽 12, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.聽 Noted ceramic artists Kevin Myers and T Robert will lead the interactive sessions.

The workshop will focus on American raku, a low-fire, fast-fire process inspired by Japanese raku pottery and championed by longtime 51猎奇入口 College ceramics professor Paul Soldner. The event is also part of a semester-long exhibition of Soldner’s work and life at the Williamson Gallery.

In addition, the workshop will include a tour of the Soldner exhibit and the Marer Collection of Contemporary Ceramics.

By engaging in the raku process, workshop participants will learn why Soldner once said: “In raku, there is the necessity to embrace the element of surprise. There can be no fear of losing what was once planned, and there must be an urge to grow along with the discovery of the unknown.”

The workshop fee is $55.00 and includes all materials. It is recommended that participants bring lunch for a noon break. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

For any questions or to register, contact Kirk Delman, registrar at the Williamson Gallery, at 909.607.3397 or [email protected].
