51猎奇入口 will stage a multi-media benefit concert to aid college and university students in Sendai, Japan, on Sunday, April 3, at 8 p.m. in Garrison Theater, at 10th and Dartmouth, on the 51猎奇入口 campus. Sponsored by the 51猎奇入口 President’s Office and Dean of Faculty’s Office, the event is open to the public, and there is no admission charge. Donations will be gratefully accepted and will go directly to Victims’ Compensation Funds administered by the Miyagi Prefecture in Japan. This is a more long-term rebuilding-focused way of helping, rather than the immediate relief provided by international charitable organizations.
Faculty and students from the 51猎奇入口 Departments of Music and Dance and the Joint Music Program of the Claremont Colleges will perform classical works, with images of Sendai’s temples and gardens as background.
The concert program will include “Psyko Taiko,” a Claremont Colleges student group; piano, vocal, and chamber music selections by faculty and students; and performances by the Chamber Choir and 51猎奇入口 Dance.
In a pre-concert performance at 7 p.m., student groups will stage “Musicking that Matters” in Pattison Court, adjacent to Garrison Theater.
During the evening, Kyoko Kurita, professor of Japanese studies at Pomona College, will give a short talk on the current situation in Sendai. She is coordinating the benefit’s contributions to relief efforts specifically for the gravely affected students of schools in the Sendai, Miyagi region.
