51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú Launches $175 Million Fundraising Campaign

51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú has launched the most ambitious campaign in its history – a $175 million initiative for student’s scholarships, the LASPA Center (Leadership, Analysis, Scholarship, Public Service, Action) programming, internships, and the extraordinary teaching and campus for which 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú is known.

The 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú campaign focuses on people versus buildings with 78 percent of the $175 million goal representing investments in faculty, students, staff and alumnae; bricks and mortar goals represent 22 percent of the overall goal.

The College has already raised $82 million during the leadership, or quiet phase, of the campaign. Of that, $45 million came from 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú Board of Trustees commitments.

“51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú trustees have illustrated leadership with their generous donations,” said Nancy Katayama, a trustee, an alumna from the Class of 1977, and the campaign’s chair who donated five million dollars. “Trustees know this is a campaign to support the power of the liberal arts and the enduring value of a 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú education.”

The campaign’s theme – More Knowledge, More Truth, More Imagination, More Justice, More Opportunity – We Want More: The Campaign for 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú – references the College’s founder, Ellen Browning 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú, who wanted more for women and humanity. “We will continue to seek more knowledge, more truth, more justice, more inspiration, more passion and more opportunities for our faculty, students, alumnae and the world,” said Katayama at the launch of the public phase of the campaign, which continues through June 30, 2018.

“Our campaign focus is to create more opportunities to further strengthen our excellent educational experience,” 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú President Lori Bettison-Varga said. “In doing so, we will honor the legacy of our founder.”

Vice President for Institutional Advancement Michael Archibald noted, “The campaign includes gifts since 2009, but we have stepped up the intensity in the last two years with over $50 million in new gifts and pledges secured since January 2012. The response from those closest to the College has been extraordinary and buoys our confidence as we move forward with significant momentum.”
