Sadie Buck Examines The Contemporary Indigenous Woman

Sadie Buck, founder of Indigenous Arts and Cultural Consulting and Training, discusses “The Life and Times of a 2012 Contemporary Traditional Haudenosaunee Woman – Carrying On” at noon on February 8. This public event is free.

Buck comes from a long line of traditional singers, dancers, ritualists and performers. She will examine how a traditional longhouse way of life manifests itself in 2012.

She has taught at various universities, including Harvard University, Hamilton College, University of Toronto and at the National Aboriginal and Islanders Skills Development Corporation in Australia.

Buck will speak in the Hampton Room in the Malott Commons, 1030 Columbia Ave. The has organized a series of lectures and film screenings titled, “Continuing Invasion: Resistance, Resilience, and Re-invention Among North American Indigenous Peoples.” The speakers will challenge the distorted depictions of Native peoples in mainstream and scholarly written works.
