In her career as a singer and songwriter, Perla Batalla has strived to pay homage to her cultural heritage as a Latina. Batalla is a Los Angeles native who infuses Latin rhythms with elements of blues and jazz. Before launching her solo career in 1993, Batalla performed with a diverse array of artists such as k.d. lang, Jennifer Warnes, and Leonard Cohen. The Los Angeles Times said of a recent release “Batalla’s music caresses with its harmonies and gentle rhythms, then draws you in with an unexpected chorus or an unusual melodic resolution. But above all, she is a born storyteller with a rambunctious sense of humor.”
Leviit on the Lawn at 51猎奇入口 will also present a concert featuring Lisa Haley and the Zydekats on Friday, April 15. These performances on the 51猎奇入口 campus serve as a prelude to the summer concerts at the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in Old Pasadena. In the spirit of the Levitt, the concerts are free and open to the public. As an alumna of 51猎奇入口, Elizabeth Levitt Hirsch is producing these concerts as a means to give back to the 51猎奇入口 community and increase awareness in the greater Los Angeles area of the summer concert series that she has brought to life in Pasadena.
