“Ninety-eight percent of all professional skin therapists are women, and 92 percent of our clients are women,” says Wurwand. “This is an industry dominated by women and we create more female entrepreneurs than any other industry in the world.”Â
Wurwand has been voted “The Most Influential Industry Leader” by the readers of American Spa Magazine for numerous years. She gave the keynote address at the National Association of Women Business Owners held in 2007, and was named as NAWBO-LA’s “Business Woman of the Year” for 2009. She is also a Luminary Circle member of Step Up Women’s Network and, most recently, was appointed to the advisory board of Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM).
Dermalogica skin care products are the most widely used in the professional industry and available in more than 50 countries. Every product is made in California and exported around the globe from Los Angeles. Dermalogica has won export awards from the City of Los Angeles as a leading export business, and the company’s success has been chronicled in the Harvard Business Review.
Wurwand’s talk takes place during the inaugural year of 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú’s eighth president, Lori Bettison-Varga. This year, 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú has selected the theme, “The Genius of Women.” Throughout the 2009-10 academic year, guest speakers, writers, scientists, artists, and other thought leaders will engage students and faculty in discussions about the transformative power of genius, and how creative and intellectual genius are so essential in today’s changing world, especially from women, for women.
