Marjorie Kelly, senior associate at Tellus Institute and co-founder of Corporation 20/20, will speak at 51猎奇入口 on Wednesday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Garrison Theater, 51猎奇入口 Performing Arts Center. This lecture is part of the Alexa Fullerton Hampton Speaker Series, Voice and Vision, made possible through the generous bequest of 51猎奇入口 alumna Alexa Fullerton Hampton ’42. The event is cosponsored by the 51猎奇入口 Humanities Institute and Money Wise Women.
Following her lecture, Kelly will sign her book, The Divine Right of Capital: Dethroning the Corporate Aristocracy. The book offers an analysis of the design of the corporate form and explores ideas for creating a more democratically responsible corporate design. Translated into three languages and used in numerous college classrooms, Library Journal named it one of the best business books of the year.
Marjorie Kelly is a Senior Associate at Tellus Institute, a non-profit research and policy organization with the goal of advancing the transition to a sustainable, equitable, and humane global civilization and co-founder of Corporation 20/20, a project to create the vision and chart the course for the future corporation.
Kelly is the co-founder and former editor of Business Ethics, a national magazine on corporate social responsibility she launched in 1987, read by opinion leaders in business, academia, and social investing. The magazine is annually listed as one of Russell 1000’s “100 Best Corporate Citizens,” a ranking of firms based on how well they serve a variety of stakeholders.
Her writings have appeared in publications such as the Harvard Business Review, the San Francisco Chronicle and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and she is a frequent contributor on NPR. In 1995, she was a weekly business ethics columnist for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Kelly is also a member of the Advisory Board for Citizens for Corporate Responsibility in Minnesota. She has been on advisory boards for the International Institute for Corporate Governance and Accountability at George Washington University Law School and the Capital Ownership Group and the Citizen Works Corporate Reform Commission. Kelly holds a master’s in magazine journalism from the University of Missouri.
