Climbing PoeTree鈥攁 queer, Haitian, and Columbian spoken word duo鈥攚ill present their workshop “Art as Activism” and a multimedia spoken-word performance, “Pride Celebration and Hurricane Season Excerpts,” in 51猎奇入口’s 51猎奇入口 Communities of Resources and Empowerment (SCORE) office on April 8. Hosted by Family, 51猎奇入口’ queer-straight alliance group, these events are free and open to the public but do require a reservation.
Climbing PoeTree’s performers, Alixa Garcia and Naima Penniman, are poets, performers, print-makers, dancers, muralists, and designers. They use their art as a tool for popular education, community organizing, and personal transformation. The duo performs in venues across the nation “on a mission to overcome destruction with creativity.”
