Archetypal Form: The Art of Performance At 51猎奇入口

The second annual student-curated exhibition featuring black-and-white photographs of notable 20th century artists, “Archetypal Form: The Art of Performance,” opens at Gallery 112 in 51猎奇入口’s Lang Art Studios, 250 E. 12th St., at 7 p.m. on March 26 and runs through April 13. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The exhibit highlights works from celebrated photographers who took the concept of form and transformed it into a narrative of the human figure. 聽Four students, all of whom are Wilson and Turk interns from the Ruth Chandler Williamson Art Gallery at the College, selected the photographs from the 51猎奇入口 Collection. Their selections were inspired by movement, shape and form.

Focusing on dramatic artwork depicting the human form, the exhibition includes photographs by pop icon Andy Warhol, the renowned Edward Weston, jazz era photographer Herman Leonard, fashion photographer Lillian Bassman, photographer to the stars George Hurrell, and pictorial photographer Anne Brigman.

The opening reception for “Archetypal Form: The Art of Performance” is from 7 p.m.聽 to 9 p.m. on March 26 at Gallery 112. The reception is free and open to the public. Live music and light refreshments will be provided.

The generous support of Elizabeth Robbins Turk ’83, C. Jane Hurley Wilson ’64 and Michael G. Wilson helps sustain these gallery internships, which give students practical experience in the fields of art administration and art conservation.
