Professor Michael Spezio Gives Witherspoon Lecture on Wellbeing, Psychology, and Theology

Michael Spezio, 51猎奇入口鈥檚 associate professor of psychology, neuroscience, and data science, was the featured speaker for the William Witherspoon Lecture in Theology in Science at the Center of Theological Inquiry (CTI) on Tuesday, April 22 at 5 p.m. PT. The lecture was also livestreamed at ctinquiry.org.

Spezio delved into the concepts of wellbeing and what it means to thrive, especially within the context of what psychological science can offer theology. The event continues Spezio鈥檚 engagement with CTI, which includes a recent episode he co-hosted for the Theology Matters podcast.

As a computational cognitive neuroscientist specializing in valuation, emotion, and decision making in interaction, Spezio鈥檚 interests include the intersections of religion, science, virtue, and empathy. In collaboration with researchers from Fuller Theological Seminary and Caltech, he recently completed a three-year study on compassion exhibited by caregivers for developmentally disabled people.
