The movement began in 2013, after Hadiya Pendleton was fatally shot on a playground, and observers wear orange鈥攖he color hunters wear to protect themselves鈥攊n support of victims and survivors of gun violence.
“Today, I #WearOrange on Gun Violence Awareness Day in honor of Hadiya Pendleton and every victim of gun violence,” Giffords wrote in a tweet shared by the publication. “This crisis has touched far too many Americans. We cannot let another year pass without action. I will never stop fighting for a future free from gun violence.”
