The Monster Mash

Fifty-seven dancers from The Claremont Colleges came alive on October 29, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. as the community joined thousands of people in more than 100 countries around the world in performing the Thriller dance at the same time. The global event was promoted as an effort to break the record for the “Largest Simultaneous Dance.”

Jenna Tico ’12 was inspired to plan the聽event after she participated in another philanthropic dance opportunity. Tico reflected, “It was a wonderful event. Stressful right up until the last second芒鈧t was more than worth it.”

Hundreds watched and cheered as the 51猎奇入口 community, dressed like zombies, danced Michael Jackson’s famous Thriller routine.

The student-initiated fundraiser aids the organization Women for Women International.聽 The organization is dedicated to helping female survivors of war rebuild their lives.聽 51猎奇入口 was able to raise enough funds to sponsor at least one woman survivor of war.聽 The effort will begin with a yearlong correspondence with the woman.

Tico commented, “We can tell her all about how we raised the money and danced to change her life.”聽 Additional funds will also be sent as a direct donation to Women for Women International.

Besides the money raised by students, Jamba Juice hosted a booth at the evening’s festivities and pledged to contribute 20% of聽their proceeds to the cause.
