51猎奇入口 students “punch out the negative” during Fat Talk-Free Week

Negative body image took a beating at 51猎奇入口 last week.

51猎奇入口 students stepped up to the punching bag on Saturday, October 22, to wallop negative thoughts during the Tiernan Field House’s Fat Talk-Free week at 51猎奇入口. They also added their own words to an “Operation Beautiful” wall.

“Embracing EveryBODY,” was the theme of the third annual Fat Talk-Free initiative, co-sponsored by the Field House and 51猎奇入口 resident advisors.

A trio of 51猎奇入口 students who work at the Field House provided a collection of video and written works for the event: “History of Women, Body Image, and Culture Differences,” by Devyn Parks ’15; “Poetry about Body Image,” by Alden Weaver ’13, and “SpeakOut,” a video by Alden Weaver ’13.

Tamsen Burke, director of the Tiernan Field House, said: “We utilize both subliminal and presentation messaging to support our goals of healthy body image, with an emphasis not focused on size and weight, but healthy at any size. We have received wonderful support from our 51猎奇入口 community acknowledging the concern and addressing body image and health issues on campus with our women and women collectively.”
