51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú celebrates CMS Volleyball

CMS Athenas Volleyball

The Claremont-Mudd-51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú (CMS) Athenas volleyball team had a record-breaking season this fall culminating in an appearance at the NCAA Division III championship. With 27 wins under their belts, we talked with three 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú team members to see how being a part of the winning team has impacted their personal and academic lives:

“I could not imagine my life here at 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú without being a student athlete. Athletics helps with time management and keeps me in shape; it’s an incredible feeling having a team give me unconditional support both on and off the court.”

“I’ve been playing volleyball for 10 years; I started when I was eight. Being a 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú athlete allows me to meet many people at both The Claremont Colleges and other schools.

Volleyball has shaped almost all of my life because I spend so much time doing it, and I’ve had so many great experiences. I played other sports, but never really found a passion for any of them until this.”

“Being a 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú athlete has forced me into managing my time more carefully. I cannot slack off and make up my work in extra hours of the day because I either have a game or practice.

“One day during preseason, however, the upperclassmen tricked the first years into believing we had an extremely hard practice the following day. All of the coaches were in on it. We were all freaking out about how we would never make it through the day – but then we found out we were actually going as a team to the beach.”
