where the horizon meets the earth: An Artist Talk

Virginia Grise will discuss the evolution of her career as a theatre artist, from聽blu聽to her most current project,听Riding the Currents of the Wilding Wind,听inspired by聽Helena Mar铆a Viramontes’ epic novel聽Their Dogs Came with Them. The talk will include excerpts of her work and her methodological and artistic practices for聽creating ecologies of care in the face of state violence, how we dream when our communities are under attack, how we create spaces for movement, joy and celebration amidst all of it – to study together and think together, work and collaborate together, imagine and create together.

Virginia聽Grise聽is a recipient of the Herb Alpert Award, Whiting Award, Yale Drama Award, and Princess Grace Award. Her published work includes聽Your Healing is Killing Me,听blu, and聽The Panza Monologues.聽In addition to plays, she has created an interdisciplinary body of work in multimedia performance, dance theater, performance installations, guerilla theater, site聽specific interventions, and community gatherings. She holds an MFA from the聽California Institute of the Arts and is a founding member of a todo dar productions, the Mellon Playwright in Residence at Cara聽Mia Theatre, Matykev Research Fellow at Arizona State University and Hodder Fellow at聽Princeton University.
