Public Event – Opal Tometi

Black Lives Matter: Opal Tometi in Conversation

Launched in the wake of the murder of Trayvon Martin to combat anti-black racism and harnessing the global power of social media, few social movements have galvanized the nation like #BlackLivesMatter. The movement’s New York–based Nigerian American cofounder, Opal Tometi, is also at the helm of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration and has been recognized among the 50 Greatest Leaders by Fortune magazine. She visits 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú to talk about her ongoing advocacy for racial justice and to reflect on what leadership means to her in the 21st century.

Sponsored by the 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú Humanities Institute, the Laspa Center for Leadership, the Katharine Howard Miller Endowed Speakers Program, and the Alexa Fullerton Hampton ’42 Fund.
