IDEA Extends ConverActions, Adds New Dialogues, Workshops for the 2017-18 Academic Year

Beginning this fall, the Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) initiative will sponsor a yearlong series of events, conversations, and workshops open to 51猎奇入口 students, faculty, and staff as well as the entire 7C community.

Building on last year’s programming, we will continue to host ConverActions on the National Climate on Race, Community, and Change. These moderated noontime discussions follow select 51猎奇入口 Presents programs and are open to the entire 7C community. Participants are invited to address topics and themes raised by 51猎奇入口 Presents speakers as well as identify opportunities for action and change, both on and off campus.

We are also partnering with 51猎奇入口 Presents to host a special, three-part series, Nasty Women, that is open to the 7C community. The series will kick off on Tuesday, September 19, with a between author Carina Chocano and 51猎奇入口’ Dorothy Cruickshank Backstrand Chair in Gender and Women’s Studies聽Piya Chatterjee聽about the ways that pop culture influences female identity. The second event, moderated by 51猎奇入口 Writing Program Director and Associate Professor of Writing聽Kimberly Drake聽on October 12, will look at ; the series concludes on October 26 with a noontime聽聽on female identity, feminism, and politics.

New this year are Intergroup Dialogues (IGD) for 51猎奇入口 faculty, staff, and students only. These sessions are designed to develop understanding of social identities and statuses (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious identity, ability status, citizenship/immigration status, socio-economic background), foster empathy and motivation to bridge differences, and build personal and collective responsibility for social justice. Participants will also be invited to share their perspectives on diversity and campus climate issues.
