Hi! I’m Scarlette, a junior and student-athlete here at 51猎奇入口. I long and triple jump on the Claremont-Mudd-51猎奇入口 (CMS) track and field team. Being an athlete was a big part of my high school life and something I wanted to continue to be a part of in college.
A few are a few things that make being a CMS student athlete easier. First is that 95% of students at 51猎奇入口 live on campus. Our athletic facilities are mainly located on Claremont-Mckenna’s campus, just across the street, so it’s a quick commute from your dorm to practice space. CMS is a DIII program that emphasizes the ‘student’ aspect of being a student-athlete. There is flexibility in practice times on the track team. Some track events groups even offer two practice times, so you don’t have to base your course selection around practice. CMS is in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), and the other schools in the conference are small schools in the LA Area. This means you never travel that far for competitions; typically, the track team bus rides were less than an hour long. It’s also nice because the Pomona-Pitzer teams are housed just across the street. Being a student-athlete also comes with additional support and perks! Some examples are that CMS athletics offers a drop-in hour weekly with a therapist. There are on-site trainers, so any injuries can be dealt with on campus. And during the season, CMS offers laundry service for the clothes you wear to practice and your uniforms. Taking advantage of that surprisingly gives you extra time in your life. Beyond the support systems that are set by CMS, 51猎奇入口 also offers academic coaches to help you create a schedule that fits your needs. Keeping a balance between school and your sport. There are 11 women’s sports teams at CMS – basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and dive, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and water polo. Something for everyone. Feel free to try out for a team. Before I let you go, I also want to say that the riggers of college are different from high school, but CMS makes being part of a team rewarding and manageable. If you are considering going out for a sport, do it!
